From New Hampshire to New York and Back Again

Life has been so busy that I am just getting the chance to download my photos from our trip to NYC last weekend. I love going into the city. So much to do and see. This trip Brian and I let Katie decide what places she would like to explore. (The photo above is one that I took of Katie and Brian walking around NYC.)Here is what we did. We started out taking the subway to the Staten Island Ferry so we could see the Statue of Liberty. It was a very foggy day as just as we got off the subway it started to downpour. So we hopped onto the ferry so Katie could get a better viewing of our Lady Liberty. We braved the wind and the rain to get a great view from the outside deck. When we were done there we walked to to Wall Street. Katie was thrilled to be there. From there we found a great little cafe and then off to Museum of Natural History. It was a very full day but we all had a great time . The city has so much to offer and I will never get tired of visiting but, it always feels so good to come home

There is always so much to catch up with after being away. My week has been full with teaching and creating some new work for a couple shows coming up in December. This past weekend was our first Holiday Open House at the One Washington Center. We had a very good turnout. I sold a couple of my pieces and many of my limited edition prints. Thanks to all of you who came and supported your local artists. Our small arts collaborative hopes to continue to expand and have many more successful events such as this one.

Off and Running

Off to an early start today, I woke again bright and early at 4am (wide awake with ideas and things I want to do!) I am starting to worry a little that I need to slow down and let my mind rest. I have been so filled with creative ideas for projects and time seems to go by so fast. It is wonderful, but very consuming.

I just spent the past couple hours finding some great vintage clip art to use in my mixed pieces. Of course lots of birds and some great fonts and french postcards. I started 5 new pieces yesterday. Sorting through my brightly colored papers and adding some vintage sheet music. I am going with a softer pastel color palette for these pieces. I am hoping to finish them this weekend. Today I'll be at the studio working on mounting some watercolors on panel boards with Ann. Then off to Katie's parent teacher conference. She is doing so well in school, I am just so proud of her! I always get such nice comments from her teachers. Then I am going to take Katie on a shopping day at the Mall of NH.

Have a lovely Friday,
Caryn XOXO

A days work at the studio

Well I was back busy working in the studio today and look what I finished for the teachers art show. Both are 11"x14" mixed media pieces. Bee happy is the first of a series that incorporates bees as subject matter somewhere in the artwork. My inspiration is drawn from the carpenter bees that have been nesting in our porch ceiling and embracing the thought that I am the queen bee. The next piece,Together, side by side, is a tribute to the days of my childhood when my sister, mother, and I would go walking around the neighborhood signing the song "side by side." Happy memories of long ago, but still near and dear in my heart.

Immersed in Creative Spirit

What a busy week! So busy I haven't found time to share my happenings here so let me start in rewind. Yesterday I had a creative afternoon at the studio. I am working on two new pieces for the Art Teachers show at the Kittery Art Association which will be Nov. 6th through Dec. 7th, the opening reception will be Nov. 9th from 4-6pm. The image to the left is one of the pieces that is still in progress. Friday morning I was at Highland Farm Preschool to teach an art class. The kids were dressed up for Halloween in their cute costumes. We made a mummy art project together.

On top of teaching my regular schedule at the studio this week I was creating the new web site for Creative Spirit Art Studio I am thrilled with what I accomplished. This has been a goal of mine for almost a year. I have been wanting to get a web site up and running and tried once before but I wasn't happy with the results. Like I have said before I am not very good with technology, but I am getting better and feel proud of my new skill!

This past Tuesday was the first Creative Ladies Night Out that I held at the studio. It was such a wonderful evening. We spent some time getting to know a bit about each other, sharing some stories, and working on our individual creative endeavors. There were five of us Christie, Meredith, Michelle, Jill, and me. We talked a bit about Artist Trading Cards, a project that I would like everyone who will be joining us for the November night out to participate in. If you are looking for some examples or more information about artist trading cards click on the link above or on the photo to the left.

Last weekend I received confirmation from the Art Nest that I will be attending their winter retreat. I am so excited to be able to participate in this experience and learn some new art techniques from the artist who will be teaching the workshops.

So even though I was exhausted by the end of this past busy week, falling asleep on the couch last night while trying to watch a movie, I am still filled with the creative spirit and dreams are constantly becoming a reality for me. Lucky me!
XOXO, Caryn
